Description:

Participate in various community events throughout the year, and organize educational evenings that address substance abuse prevention issues in our community. LDAAC works in association with the Ontario Drug Awareness Partnership, Substance Abuse Prevention Network, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Parent Action on Drugs, Ophea (Ontario Physical and Health Education Association), Lambton educators and community groups to develop resources, programs and peer-to-peer messaging to address substance abuse prevention issues and to develop problem-solving and decision-making skills for youth

Lambton Drug Awareness Action Committee

Lambton Drug Awareness Action Committee (LDAAC) is comprised of volunteers from local health, social services, education and law enforcement agencies, as well as community members from across Lambton County.

LDAAC was founded in 1987 to enhance health by promoting the non-use of illegal drugs (such as cocaine and marijuana) as well as the non-risk use of legal substances (such as alcohol and tobacco). We work in partnership with such groups and organizations such as County of Lambton Community Health Services Department, Sarnia Police, Lambton OPP, Bluewater Health, Sarnia Lions Club, First Nations communities, MADD, etc.

Our goals are:

·       Enhance individual and community health by promoting the non-use of illicit drugs and non-risk use of legal substances.

·       Increase public awareness of substance abuse issues, and promote healthy lifestyle alternatives.
·       Prevent the use of illicit drugs and inhalants throughout life.
·       Prevent the use of tobacco among children, adolescents and reduce its use to low risk levels among adults.
·       Prevent the abuse of prescription drugs and promote their use in accordance with responsible prescribing and healthy lifestyle practices.

Racing Against Drugs

Racing Against Drugs, held during National Drug Awareness Week in late November, is a fun, interactive, learning experience that gives elementary students (Grade 5) in our community the information they need to stay on track and to live drug-free. Sponsored by Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the event promotes public awareness of substance abuse issues and healthy lifestyle alternatives for our children.

The Alcohol-Free Family New Year’s Celebration offers families an affordable alternative to ring in the New Year together, as a family, in a smoke-free and alcohol-free environment. The event helps promote, educate and raise awareness of substance use issues along with promoting/encouraging healthy lifestyle choices vital to families and youth.

Purple Ribbon Campaign: Studies show that negative consequences of alcohol far outweigh beneficial effects, and perhaps alcohol’s most visible, negative outcome in Sarnia-Lambton is the link between alcohol and adverse traffic outcomes. The Lambton Drug Awareness Action Committee marks the Purple Ribbon Campaign the week prior to the Victoria Day weekend in May, the unofficial start to summer, to heighten awareness of the problems of impaired driving
